Allianz Global Investors, the €598bn asset manager, has named Virginie Maisonneuve as global chief investment officer for equities.
Maisonneuve, who has worked at Martin Currie, Schroders, Pimco and most recently as CIO at Eastspring Investments, will succeed Steve Berexa, who will retire at the end of 2021.
Reporting to Deborah Zurkow, global head of investments at AllianzGI, Maisonneuve will be based in London and will move back from Singapore in the autumn. She will be responsible for overseeing AllianzGI’s €160bn equity offering.

“When it came to finding a successor to Steve, we sought someone of the highest calibre to ensure that our investment capability and offering develops ahead of the market,” said Zurkow.
“Virginie fits the bill perfectly: her breadth of experience, record of highly relevant innovation and global, forward looking outlook means she is strongly positioned to help us in the development of our client offering – in equity but also as part of the leadership team of the firm.”
Maisonneuve left Eastspring at the end of 2019, having joined two years previously. On leaving Eastspring, Maisonneuve set up MGA consulting, an independent management consulting boutique focused on the asset management sector.
She joined Pimco from Schroders in early 2014 tasked with leading a move into equities, a decision the California-headquartered bond giant hoped would help counter heavy outflows in its fixed income funds, but her role at the US house lasted only 18 months, as Pimco retreated from its equities push in the aftermath of the surprise departure of co-founder Bill Gross.
