AI IN MEDICAL IMAGING
An artificial intelligence (AI) system that has been recently adopted by Beijing Tiantan Hospital can extend the therapeutic time window for patients suffering from cerebral ischemic stroke.
The AI system, iStroke, has been developed by BioMind, an AI company providing machine intelligence solutions in medical imaging.
The system can greatly cut the time of diagnostic imaging and shorten the preoperative decision-making time by providing rapid and accurate automatic imaging analysis. Therefore, the therapeutic time window for cerebral ischemic stroke can be extended from six hours to 24 hours, said Miao Zhongrong, director of the hospital’s interventional neuroradiology center.
ULTRA-LOW TEMPERATURE
A Chinese research institution has developed a prototype refrigerator to realize an ultra-low temperature close to absolute zero, which is the physical limit of temperature.
The Institute of Physics, affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said Tuesday that it developed a prototype refrigerator to realize this ultra-low temperature just 0.01 degrees Celsius higher than absolute zero, which is -273.15 degrees Celsius.
ONLINE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
An online platform focusing on training people engaged in new professions has attracted more than 8 million users, according to data released by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group.
The platform, jointly launched by China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and Alibaba’s communication app DingTalk, aims to provide further training to professionals.
The new professions, mostly in the public-health sector and emerging industries, include blockchain technicians, online marketers, information-security testers, online-learning consultants and community health assistants, among others.
